#1 Types of Agriculture

 Various methods of Farmings are 

  • Subsistence - usually crops are grown for family's consumption and not for selling in the market
  • Shifting cultivation - a plot of land is prepared by burning the plants' residues to increase productivity. The crop is grown for 2-3 sessions and then the land remains fallow for 2-3 years to regain productivity.
  • Intensive farming - concentrated use of inputs such as fertilizer, pesticides etc. to increase the yield of crops.
  • Extensive farming - use of family labour and less use of mechanization. Usually practised in developing countries.
  • Commercial farming - crops are grown to sell in the market.
  • Plantation Agriculture - large land tracts are used to grow crops such as Tea, Rubber etc. It requires a high level of investment.
  • Mixed farming - crops are grown along with animal rearing.
  • Mixed cropping - various crops are grown simultaneously in a specific land plot.
  • Crop Rotation - In a specific land plot crops are grown in a cyclic manner one after another such as Wheat in winter(Rabi) and Soyabean in Summer(Kharif).
